SafeZone
When natural disasters occur, telecommunication systems often go offline, making it difficult to get connected with first responders. SafeZone is an app built with the Multipeer Connectivity framework that allows connecting to a peer-to-peer network of nearby devices. The network can extend for a large area around, allowing for communication between people and emergency services without the need for internet or cell towers. The app allows for tracking, communicating, and running functions that can be helpful to rescue teams.
The project won a Silver medal at the 2020 IEYI World Contest and Taiwan International Exhibition for Young Inventors. The International Exhibition for Young Inventors (IEYI) was founded in 1904 by Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (JIII) and it is hosted each year by different countries after their first exhibition in Tokyo. Originally, the 2020 IEYI was supposed to be held by Russia in Kazan; however, due to the current outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was held remotely by Taiwan as agreed with all IEYI members.
